Ok so this is how I built my unprofessional home studio.

I started by buying an audio interface (sound card), to connect the microphone to the computer through that. There are some USB microphones that you can connect to the computer directly. But you would need a sound card. Generally, the more GB you have on the computer, and the faster your computer is, the better for recording, because recording music takes up a lot of energy and space. I used Cubase, but there are plenty of easier and more basic things out there like Audacity. If you plan on recording your voice, a condenser microphone would be your best option. There are microphones ideal for instruments, others ideal for singing, so you have a lot of options there. To make the recording quality better, I also used a pop filter in front of the mic, it makes it sound more smooth.

But basically all I bought was:

- a sound card (it was a package that came with Cubase and other software)
- a microphone
- a microphone stand
- a pop filter

And I started to record. There are certain things you can learn about what kinds of rooms are better to record in, to make the sound better, but I won't go into too much detail there. hope this gave you an idea, but for further details, try researching this more on the internet.
