Rainbow – Stargazer (long studio version)

Here’s an early mix (from Cozy Powell’s own collection) of Stargazer, off the Rainbow Rising album. It features an extended keyboard intro (cut from the final release) and a longer outro. This is taken from the album “Rising Rough Mix” (and is the most interesting track on it).

Rising was probably my favourite album back in 1977(76?) – I even transcribed the guitar parts in tablature. Then again, I was the first person in school with a copy – having discovered the joys of import record shops by this time. Local (Australian) release came 3-5 months later.

And, towards the end of that year, the band toured, and we all went to see them – rainbow-light, 1812 Overture drum-solo, guitar through the ceiling and all.

This is for Greg Squires – who may have got a copy of the first Rainbow album before me, and raved about it.
