    RIP Johnny R Cash we all loved you

  2. @TheFlyingfiend …
    @TheFlyingfiend Haven’t you heard? Nobody’s grunge. Musicians have been running away from that label for 16 years now on advice of record labels and marketing consultant. If early Soundgarden isn’t grunge then nothing is.

    @mmorrell1 actualy …
    @mmorrell1 actualy soundgarden doesnt sing grunge. The only reson that some people think that they sing grunge is becasue they made a statement that made it seem like they sing grunge, butthey didn’t d it on purpose.

  4. One week …
    One week Soundgarden and Alice n’ Chains were playing at that crappy little movie theater in downtown Olympia, on State Street. Nirvana was playing down the block at The Moon. Then the scene exploded over night, suddenly and violently, and all these grunge bands were touring the world and doing music videos for MTV. It was surreal.

    Dude, I just love responding to your question and dialogue – to hear THE Rusty Cage. It almost makes my blood boil. it seems. ;)

    @kissthesettingsun …
    @kissthesettingsun No problem. Yeah, I guess they re-released it as a single after he died. I don’t know. My Cash knowledge is very limited.

    @residualbill

    You …
    @residualbill

    You learn something new everyday, my confusion was that JC’s Rusty Cage abomination was a radio single here in Texas in 2003., making me think it was recorded around that time.

    @kissthesettingsun …
    @kissthesettingsun Yes, the cover was in 1996, on his “Unchained” album.
    The Soundgarden show was pretty much exactly as the album was released, although I believe the band got to hear it early.

    @residualbill

    Wait, Chris Cornell commented on Johnny Cash’s “cover” in 1996, before the cover was made? I apologize but you have me confused sir.

  12. residualbill on May 25th, 2010 at 5:00 am

    @kissthesettingsun …
    @kissthesettingsun I’m talking about with Soundgarden in 96, almost 10 years before he died.
    Anyway, it’s cool. We have our opinons and neither will change.

    @residualbill

    @residualbill

    Chris Cornell was probably being respectful. Are you aware of his Timbaland produced album? Dude’s not mentally alright nowadays, so his opinions on whatever should definitely not be taken at face value.

  14. residualbill on May 25th, 2010 at 5:00 am

    @kissthesettingsun …
    @kissthesettingsun Chris Cornell would disagree with you. He actually liked his interperetation.
    Also, when he played here in Chicago, Cornell dedicated the song to Cash.
    I’m not a fan of the cover, myself, but, what is, is. on or not.

    @residualbill

    It’s never fitting for Johnny Cash to torture a song by Soundgarden. No excuses.

  16. residualbill on May 25th, 2010 at 5:00 am

    @kissthesettingsun …
    @kissthesettingsun Well, it’s fitting. Johnny Cash was a ‘tortured soul’. Much of his work reflected it.
    So it’s also fitting that he ‘tortured’ this great song. Taken a lively song and made it sound like a old man dragging a dead horse across a dusty road.

    @residualbill

    Johnny Cash didn’t cover this song. He tortured it beyond what any cognizably sane person would do.
