    OK…bedroom 555. …
OK…bedroom 555. Not going to safely produce the the booming lows needed for rap and hip hop for under 300. I know the requirements and you are not going to get by that cheaply. Save a few Euro’s then check with the fine folks at Parts Express. They offer pro power amps x-overs, raw drivers and raw subs. Everything you can imagine in DIY loudspeaker building. Their incredible speaker tech. crew will help you achieve your goals affordably, DIY is the answer for young DJ’s on a budget.

    Okay, thanks, what monitors
would you recommend for that, something under £300ish??

    This is a loud …
This is a loud combo for pop and rock. To thump the bottom in a small room …should be ok for these styles… if you are into rap or anything with an artificially enhanced bottom… I would suggest a long throw design in a 15″ or a 12″ in a tuned enclosier with twice the power.

I’m planning on getting a pair of the M 505’s and a M10s, im a bedroom Dj do you think that would be loud enough, and does anyone know what the 505 and the 10s are like together, is the bass any good???

If any of you have any questions I’ll try and answer them as I have time…post em here and I’ll try to help you out….have fun making music!

    Another quick tip …
Another quick tip as I have some time this morning. Acoustically treat your room with foam tiles. The idea is to damp most of the base and trap for sympathetic echo problems. Put alot of furnature behind your listening position to trap more lows. Midrange trapping tiles directly behind your monitors and on the ceiling. Carpet on the floor. A top tip is to keep your monitors at ear level approx. 4 ft. apart in a triangular config. pointing to the back of your head at more than an armslength away.

    In conclusion there …
In conclusion there is a tn of hype across the board for $200 sets to $10,000 sets in terms of reference to frequency. This set is targeted at the home studio as a reference system….ooops don’t believe it. Save up and buy a set of Genelics if prestige and accuracy are your goal. Or take it form a pro that has convinced other pros and buy the amped Behringers…your mixes will love you for it. And no I don’t have any affiliation with Behringer I just speak the truth…take or leave it. Thanks

  12. MrBozobutt Says:

    ..enlightening… …
..enlightening…most KRK monitors are worse than this. The Mackies are a wee bit better in terms of flattness but still down in the mids….and the $1000 Genelics are the flattest set I’ve tested in this range. Get this one folks….some of the most accurate monitors from a tested reference analysis are the Behringer B2031a, paired with the matching sub the response is quite amazing and nearly as flat as monitors 5 times their price…I don’t see how you can go wrong in a home studio with em..

  13. MrBozobutt Says:

    In a controlled …
In a controlled environment the ikey near field array does not yeild a flat enough response to use as a reference monitoring system for critical tracking and mixdown. These speakers are no doubt hot for dj’s doing small parties ect..as they pack alot of punch for the dollar. As a monitor in the studio…look out! Your mixes will end up light in the upper frequencies light in the mids and mud in the lows. I’ve tested several nearfield reference sets for flat below $2000 and the results can be….

  14. MrBozobutt Says:

    On the sub, the …
On the sub, the x-over setting at 70hz worked best. The m505’s set at -2db. Here in a nutshell were the results in a 10 band freq. sweep…31hz,-5dbr…60hz,+3dbr….140hz,-7dbr…500hz,-2dbr…1khz,+2dbr…2.2khz,+5dbr…4khz,+1dbr…8khz,+5dbr…10khz,+4dbr…16khz-3dbr. From this sweep you can see these monitors are not even remotely close to reference flat in a room that is not symathetic to first or second order echoes. What does this all mean tho the project studio user..read on

  15. MrBozobutt Says:

    you’ll have to read …
you’ll have to read these bottoms up because thats the order they post. Anyway the monitors appeared to bright in the high frequecy range right out of the box. My room is tuned accousically to as close to flat in a nearfield array as possible..so as a reference check I whipped out the real time analyser and calibrated mic. Set up test tones white noise, pink ect.. Without getting too deep here…The the best response I could get from the onboard cabinet controls are as follows….

  16. MrBozobutt Says:

    Since there seem to …
Since there seem to be no known reviews out there for ikey monitors for use in the recording studio as an all round reference system here’s my take on them. I have 27 years in as a recording engineer, so listen up…OK? I have the whole set with the m505’s including the subwoofer. I’ve compared them with several other monitors in their class and they do not fair well with some others in the same price range. ikey’s published frequency sweep specs. are inaccurate.
