What would i need to make a recording studio with my pc?
I would like to know the basic essential things needed to have a small in home recording studio using my laptop. Nothing real expensive or advanced, jus enough to record a good quality song. I know i will need a mic, some type of recording software and etc…..
You will need a pro audio soundcard something like a sapphire 6 would be a good choice onboard sound will give you lag. a daw (software) I would recommend ableton live as it’s easy to use. A decent mic haven’t bought one for a while so ask at a music shop, I’ve heard good things about rode m3s but there might be something better out now.
That’s about all you need you might want to get a midi keyboard as you can use your daw like a instrument (very handy) it’s better than scoring on a computer. Daws come with effects etc too

Audacity is a free open source software, cross-platform digital audio editor and recording application. It is available for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and BSD. It can also be used for post-processing of all types of audio, including podcasts by adding effects such as normalization, trimming, and fading in and out, cut and paste (almost like you would in a word processor), and lots of other effects.
You can use it to record or just import, and edit sound files from several formats. ‘Save’ your work in Audacity’s AUP format, and then, to keep quality export it as a wav file. Only export as a mp3 if you want to play it on a mp3 player, just as it’s a smaller file. To make a CD keep it as a wav file.
Learn more about it here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/about/
