What is required for me to start a cheap home recording studio?

I would like to create, and setup a cheap, but still nice, home recording studio. All I am looking to do is record vocal, and acoustic covers, along with some keyboard covers. What am I going to need to do all this, and what is it going to cost me?

    audacity is free and can do it but you can always get better recording with better software
