the part when he … the part when he says just because you have a thousand dollars worth of equipment doesn’t mean your a music engineer, if you start out with good high quality equipment wouldn’t that give you a better chance to learn more skills to engineering like if you use magix and try to use those skills on say pro tools it wouldn’t work or if you race a taurus and then try to race with ferrari it would be different and different equipment takes different types of skill
They make a very … They make a very good comment, with technogly today you don’t need to go to a studio anymore, a few hundred bucks plus a PC will get you a top notch home studio. What it won’t get you is good musicians or a producer. My Wife has written good songs but it took a producer (good friend) to tweak it and make it great. Unfortunately there not on youtube yet
there is a real … there is a real difference between USB and FireWire. Generally speaking firewire products usualy are high-end products and will cost you more. FW compared to USB is closer to the controller (less overhead) and will give you less latency then comparable USB products. However, this is only the case with well designed products and with the modern lineup you should choose what fits your requirements the best as many disadvantages have been overcome (USB).
and then the most … and then the most important thing: knowledge. Without knowing what to do the most expensive equipment cna prove useless, as bargain cheap equipment can produce jewels in hands of someone who knows what to do. Best of luck and if you have any questions, let me know!
I think I am close. … I think I am close… I have my mixer, computer, software, an arsenal of guitars, effects, and amps. All I need is a few mics, a good desk, a set of good quality monitors, and a place to put it all…
thanks for the … thanks for the reply theMMal,
yeah the SM57 is for vocals as well as micking amps and drums.i was kind of triying to avoid purchasing preamps for a while and using the interface’s ones meanwhile, but i don’t really know their performance.i’m aware that the oxygen has only 49 key but it’s that one, the 8v2 (25 key), or the 61key by behringer ( i don’t really trust behringer) cause of my budget.
also can`t afford monitors so i’ll just use headphones.later on i’ll get preamp, monitors and condnser.
if you want to … if you want to record your voice (as I guess thats what the SM57 is for) I would try to invest a small amount into a microphone preamp and condenser microphone. To start as a budget studio these items should be fine, altho the Oxygen 49 is very limited to real keyboard players because it only has 49 keys.
hey, i want to … hey, i want to start recording my music and, as im on a budget, what do you think of this setup?

this is so true man … this is so true man. i’m 17 years old, and i’m looking at tons of different options to put together a home recording studio. i’ve always had a passion for writing and recording, so i’m pretty stoked. i try to gain as many tips and hints as possible to make things easier and to make my music sound superb.
Agreed. I have a … Agreed. I have a home studio and have had one for a while. I’m 16 years old and still learning new tricks every day! I hate it when people just use a MIDI keyboard with all pre-generated sounds and make basic chord structures and lyrics and call it good. MIDI is good, but but when I use it, I take pre-generated sounds and modify them to create a whole new sound which is my own. But I agree 100% with you
very well put. and … very well put. and 100% correct.
I find that all of the kids who have what they like to refer to as a studio, which is nothing more than their old gaming PC, monitors, desk & a keyboard. thinking they’re automatically producer/engineers & making the hottest music mankind has every seen as well. sorry, wrong on both counts.
there are obviously exceptions to the rule, but I would say 95% of the time the studio is not a studio, its owner is not an engineer or producer, & the music is garbage.
