Its a decent mic. ...
Its a decent mic. AKG is pretty solid across the board. even when you replace it (which you eventually will) as a go to mic, chances are yiou will always find a use for it somewhere.

Finally, someone ...
Finally, someone came out with some solid advice that I cannot pan in any way. There are SO many people out there professing like they are experts on something they clearly misunderstand. From one pro to another, Ronan Rocks. I would like to see this video without the voice and lay over a classical composition to accompany his hand gestures:) I talk that way too;) LOL. Incidentally the dynamic mic so often used for vocals is often the Shure sm7, sometimes the EV RE20.

actually the Audix ...
actually the Audix stuff is really nice. Sometimes even better than the 57 for snare if you like it a little brighter. If the Audix's sound that bad, maybe its the tuning of the kit. If thats it, no mic will help. Also, it could be the room. Bass traps are paramount. You can make them really cheaply with 2'x4' rockwool and wood for frames. There are many tutorials on how to on Youtube. That is the cheapest and most effective mic upgrade you can make.

Samson and Neumann ...
Samson and Neumann in the same question. That is entertaining. Stay away from samson and go for Neumann any chance you get when it comes to condensers. Almost like asking "what do you think of the Yugo? or should I go for the Masarati?":) Hope that helps.

the sm 57 and 58 ...
the sm 57 and 58 are about the same capsule. the 58 is designed for vocals, using a bigger windscreen. One might say 57 on instruments, 58 on vocals, but I would just stick with the 57 unless you want to hold the mic and sing real close, then the 58 might work better.
