Okay, i want to have my recording studio set up so the singer can listen to the instrumental of the song, and the recorder at the desk can listen to the singer, with the instrumental, and apply effects in real-time such as anatareas auto tune, chorus, distortion, etc. I just have a regular windows xp as my computer. Please help me!

The control room will only contain a computer and a stereo, and the live vocal recording studio will be used for recording rap and will only have a mic and whatnot. what other equipment do i need and what do i need to do to build both rooms?

You need a way to keep sound from echoing off the walls and ceiling. Baffle foam is popular for that. Any carpeting will work on the floors.

In the control room, a long desk or conference table for your computer and speakers, and comfortable chairs.

I want to start making some music of my own. I know it will take a ton of money. I just what equipment I need to have a good recording studio.

I would like to know the basic essential things needed to have a small in home recording studio using my laptop. Nothing real expensive or advanced, jus enough to record a good quality song. I know i will need a mic, some type of recording software and etc…..

You will need a pro audio soundcard something like a sapphire 6 would be a good choice onboard sound will give you lag. a daw (software) I would recommend ableton live as it’s easy to use. A decent mic haven’t bought one for a while so ask at a music shop, I’ve heard good things about rode m3s but there might be something better out now.

That’s about all you need you might want to get a midi keyboard as you can use your daw like a instrument (very handy) it’s better than scoring on a computer. Daws come with effects etc too

Not sure what your budget is but the cheapest set up needs a USB mic, recording software, & headphones. All of it can be done for around $150.

I am doing a research assignment on the recording arts, and I am looking for realistic figures in terms of setting up a home studio. Equipment would be like a 32 input/channel mixer, new computer, new recording and mastering software, those big speaker things, the correct amount of mics for varied instruments. I tried to come up with the figure myself, but i don’t really know what I am looking for when I research the products because I don’t know what one would normally use.

Making a good recording is one thing – making the recording ready for CD is another thing.
