I need a good photo studio package?

March 102010

I’m looking for a really good amateur photo studio package so I can just buy everything at once, instead of paying 5 shipping charges. I need lighting, a backdrop stand and basic studio equipment. I’m looking to spend less than $500. Any help is appreciated!

This months shutterbug magazine is a lighting special that reviews several lighting packages suitable for home studio use. I would recommend you take a look at it and see which fits the way you shoot. There is even one in your price range that has a chart on setting the lights up

Take a look when you do at the Westcott photobasics kits. They come with everything and are hotlights to keep the cost down,

Looking for photo studio to rent hourly?

March 82010

Looking for a photo studio to rent hourly in Chicago and or Chicago Suburbs. It could also be an empty studio for rent (ie. no photo equipment already in it).

Most studios rent to photographers.

Rates vary depending upon the what equipment of theirs you need.

I rent one studio with six shooting set ups for $260 for four hours

Another one charges me $500 a day and has a kitchen if I need to do food shots.

Call around or look at craigslist

recommendation on setting up home photo studio?

March 62010

I’m looking to setup my own home photo studio. I already had a good SLR camera with decent range of lenses.

Is anyone have any recommendation for a lighting kit and a background support? i am looking for a decent price one.

Btw, my camera is canon 400D, i have no idea what lighting system will work with my camera.

1. you need a slave trigger for your camera’s flash shoe.
2. It is best to have independent lighting units so as not to have cords everywhere.
3. I recommend that you have a main light, one auxillary light and one backlight for backlighting and lighting the backdrop to cut down on shadows. The units should come with umbrellas and I recommend white so you can shoot through and bounce.
4. go to B&H Photo to shop… they have the best deals I think.

Good Luck…

What was the photo studio in Lincoln Mall, Matteson, Illinois? Not Sears Studio?

March 22010

I am in a bind. A few years ago I took photos at a studio in Lincoln Mall, I recently went back to find that Studio no longer there. I was wondering if anyone knew of the name? The studio was located on the first floor near Dairy Queen.

Does anyone have any experience with Photo Studio Software?

February 272010

I am helping my friend set up his photo studio and we need to buy software to manage the business. There are so many different programs and we don’t want to pick the wrong one. Any good or bad feedback is great!

Hi, I recommand you to try google picasa.

picasa is a Google’s photo software. It’s what should’ve come with your camera.

It can Edit , organise and Share you picture and small video flips.

It’s very easy to use and is free, just like Google

Download it free in here:

what equipment do I need in a photo studio?

February 252010

I love photography.
I own a Nikon D40x digital camera.
I want to transform an empty room into a photo studio.
I’m not sure which equipment pieces are necessary -I’m a total newbie at this.
I know I need a couple of umbrellas, lights, and a backdrop but I know there’s more to it.
but I’m not sure which ones are necessary for beginners…
Also, I’m looking towards finding reasonably priced items.

help please!

I"m glad Andre mentioned strobist. Their site is here:

http://www.strobist.com

It gives some examples of equipment you can purchase to get you started.

Lighting is something you can grow into, especially when on a budget. Lots of photographers get good results with one light, for example. To me, it is better to buy one light that is a little better than two that are underpowered.

Light stand
Umbrella (shoot through or relector) or softbox
Strobe
Some way to trigger (either a sync cord, which means you will need to buy a hotshoe adapter for your D40X, or a wireless trigger/receiver)

If you use a strobe designed with a hot shoe, you may need to purchase an adapter to connect it to the light stand.

Besides browsing online camera stores (which can be intimidating because they read profession (read: Expensive) gear, try looking through eBay. With eBay, it is easy to go TOO cheap. But you can at least look at the offerings as see what the equipment looks like.

Any marketing ideas for a photo studio?

February 232010

I’m an assistant at a photo studio and need to come up with some marketing ideas. I’ve been racking my brain for the past week and got nothing really. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks.

If you were my client, I would take some of the photos that you have rights to and turn them into a video slide show with some pretty music in the background and then add a title and credits page with a link to your studio website. Do one video per niche, so one for weddings, one for children, one for family photos.

Then, take those videos and post them on YouTube and as many other video sites as possible. In the video descriptions, include a link to your studio again. Make sure the titles of the video slide shows includes keyword phrases that your prospective clients would use to search for your studio plus your town name. So it could be "bridal portraits San Diego"

Another thing to check is to see if your studio is on Google Maps. If not, just click the link to add your business and follow the steps to add the business information.

Now, if your studio doesn’t have a website, you can always hire someone to make a direct response site for you. Just a regular website doesn’t do much, but a direct response one will allow you to get the contact info of people interested in your studio and build a mailing list that way. Then you can use email marketing to market the studio to your list.

Hope these ideas help!
