I am helping my friend set up his photo studio and we need to buy software to manage the business. There are so many different programs and we don’t want to pick the wrong one. Any good or bad feedback is great!

picasa is a Google’s photo software. It’s what should’ve come with your camera.
It can Edit , organise and Share you picture and small video flips.
It’s very easy to use and is free, just like Google

I am trying to set up a in-house photography studio and am looking for realistic scenic backdrops that are decent priced. Most places have the hand-painted muslims ones that look very unreal. I’m especially interested in those that have an asian flair (japanese gardens, etc).
I’m looking for the pull down backgrounds, not digital.
These backdrops are very popular in the asian community. Many couples go in for these studio shots where the backgrounds are not real, but very realistic. For instance, you have the couple wearing a traditional asian outfit and have the picture being taken in front of a matching traditional scenic background. I hope there will be photographers who know where I can get these backdrops.

I have a very basic digital sla camera, photoshop and a computer. I have found a small shop to set it up in. I have worked in a portrait studio in the past. Any advice on setting up a small business also appreciated and best place to get the equipment.

You have worked in a portrait studio so you should already know the basic equipment (camera, couple of lights, background at the most basic). But you obviously have not thought about the rest of it.
where how are the shots going to be developed/printed
how are you going to get them to your customers
how are you going to take payment
how are you going to get customers through the door
All very basic stuff to think of/sort out before you start
When I try to upload the video’s I made in Pinnacle studio 12 Ultimate directly to Youtube, I get no sound! I’ve already checked my system, but I do get the sound on all other video’s on Youtube and other websites. In Pinnacle the audio also works. Can anyone help me?

The travel needs to be about 3 inches. Another description of this slide switch (if you are not understanding): Like the "transporter" slide switches that can be seen on the original StarTrek TV series. I plan to mount it on a hand held controller box and use it to rotate a device with the other end of the cable.
Levers that move cables are usually designed around a pivoting point so that the lever has some mechanical advantage over the cable. But there is machinery, like lawn mower speed controls, that sometimes do move in, well, a narrower range of an arc, so that the movement seems flatter. You could look at small commercial machines for such a cable.
I need to know everything I need to make a homemade music studio (in a bedroom). I know that I will need a microphone, but what microphone would be best? What type of recording equipment would be good to purchase? Any information that can be provided, would greatly be appreciated.
Don’t worry about the price, I’ve been through enough to know…"you get what you pay for"…and I want atleast decent quality in my recordings. It will mainly be used for vocal recording over instrumentals.

mixer: this is what all your instruments plug in to
amplifier: takes the audio feed from the mixer and plays it out loud
a laptop with recording software installed: the best is Pro Tools, but even the basic package for that costs £200
